Ashley: Her Story and Experiences with TAFE

I’m Ashley, a senior studying English to be a secondary teacher. I didn’t know I wanted to be a teacher until my senior year. A teacher made us read a book called Acres of Diamonds, and I remember feeling really inspired by it. The book was about perspectives, and it motivated me to push forward. I want to make that change in students; I want to inspire them and help them focus on the positive things in life.

Being in TAFE has been great. I’ve experienced a lot of growth as a future educator. It helps with networking and gaining experience. We participate in Junior Achievement, which allows us to be in the field and experience what it’s like to be a teacher. It’s a lot of experience-building, forming connections, and learning how to socialize effectively.

Time management is crucial. You have to balance your classes and exams, and it’s all about pacing yourself well. Like I said, I want to make a positive change, so I hope to inspire students in the future. Having my own classroom will give me the resources to help students.
