I’m Cody Perry, I’m an assistant professor here. I teach the math methods or the math principles course as well as um. Assessment for instructional design, so anything dealing with data and mathematics is kind of my area of expertise and. My big focus as far as teaching is concerned, is helping students understand the concepts behind mathematics. Every student that we have, not just here, but across the country, they know the steps, they know the procedures, but they have no idea where they work because typically the teachers will tell them things like, you know, that’s just the way it is or that’s the way we’ve always done it. And I always tell the students, that’s not a good answer, that there’s nothing arbitrary in math, there’s always a reason for it. So my two big areas are fractions and math anxiety. And so the degree area that has the highest math anxiety is elementary education over all other. Fields, and there’s a lot of research that shows that they actually end up inadvertently passing that on to their students, and so I’m trying to kind of get to the bottom of that. And then I’m also working on helping them prepare for their state exams. So yesterday I was up there with some students helping them prepare, giving them some tips on, you know, doing well on the exam and covering some content. And then as far as service, I work with the honors program and. We’ve been we’ve done some outreach with math programs here in the city, so.
